A Benefit for Toni Shafer to Defray Medical Expenses Doors Open at 5:00 p.m. Dinner @ 6:00 p.m. Live Auction @ 6:30 p.m. Plus Raffle Drawing & Music & Dancing with The Scott Taylor Band To know more about this important fundraiser please review the following letter: Dear Community Supporters, The friends and family of Toni Shafer have come together and formed “Team Toni!” She is a 36yr old mother of 10 year old, Carson. Toni was born with cystic fibrosis and has battled this disease her whole life. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited life threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. It produces sticky mucus that blocks airways in the lungs. There is no cure for this disease and lung infections are treated with antibiotics and hospital stays. Over time with multiple infections the lungs become severely diseased that a lung transplant is the only option for continued life. The time has come that she is in need of the transplant. She has been on the list for a month anxiously awaiting for that life changing call. However, the costs of medicines that she must take for the rest of her life following the transplant are going to be extremely expensive and insurance only covers a small percentage. All the money raised will be deposited into the New Lungs, New Life Benefit Account at Wells Fargo. These funds will be used to help pay for all the out of pocket expenses that insurance does not cover. These costs will include, on campus Baylor housing for months following the transplant, travel expenses, prescriptions and many others. After she receives new lungs she will be able to breathe easier, run, jump, and feel alive again! She will also be able to fully enjoy life with her son, and watch him grow up.
