14th Annual NIGHT IN OLD PEARL CITY presented by the Pearl City Dance Club

Fun event, important fundraiser for the Yoakum Community Hospital Foundation

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19 - Night in Old Pearl City “14th Anniversary” In the mist of south-central Texas, there is a small community called Pearl City. Pearl City located on the Hochheim Prairie, about 6-1/2 miles west of Yoakum on Hwy. 111, was named in 1932 by Walter G. Hagens, owner of the community’s only store, and R. J. Etlinger, the local Pearl Beer distributor. The name was chosen based on the popularity of Pearl Beer and the amount that was consumed in Hagen’s store, In 1957, a dance club, Modern Dance Club #90, was formed to celebrate the heritage of Pearl City and to uphold the tradition of dancing in the area. Dances are held at Turner Hall located in Pearl City. In 2013, we changed our name from Modern Dance Club #90 to the Pearl City Dance Club which we feel better fits the clubs heritage and locality. "Night In Old Pearl City" has become one of the most popular events in the area, bringing attention to the historic significance of the Pearl City, Hochheim, and Yoakum communities , The day includes a tour of the Yoakum Heritage Museum open on Saturday afternoon featuring the Christmas Tree Forest and a Polka Music service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 3:00 featuring the Polka Spirit Band. In the evening, there will be a dinner and dance with the evening festivities including door prizes, bottle grab, military salute, and a silent auction. Music will be provided by the very popular “Red Ravens” from El Campo. featuring your favorite polka, waltz, and country music.
